Sixteenth Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries

The Sixteenth Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries, known as the GG seminar, was hosted by UNAFEI from 14 to 16 December 2022. The theme of the seminar was “New and Emerging Forms of Corruption and the Effective Countermeasures”. The Seminar returned to an in-person format for the first time in three years. Seventeen anti-corruption practitioners from nine ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam) plus Timor-Leste participated. Mr. CHEUNG Kin-Ling Andrew from the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), Hong Kong, as well as Mr. Giovanni GALLO from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) attended as visiting experts. Mr. FUJIWARA Daisuke also attended as a lecturer from the Second Investigation Division of the Criminal Bureau, National Police Agency, Japan.

Each participating country made a presentation regarding the anti-corruption system and case examples in each country on the theme of the seminar. The participants’ presentations also shared their challenges and best practices in the participating countries. The seminar was concluded by the presentation of the Chair’s Summary of the discussions.
